1 teaspoon salt

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Flaky sea salt for sprinkling (optional)

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

      Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat the room-temperature butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract on medium speed until creamy and light in color, about 3-5 minutes.

        Add Eggs: Add the eggs, one at a time, incorporating thoroughly after each addition. Continue to mix until the batter is combined.

          Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Lower the mixer speed and gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix until just combined—be careful not to overmix.
