Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 lb ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp black pepper

For the Marinara Sauce:

2 tbsp olive oil

1 small onion, diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 tsp sugar

1 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Meatballs:

    - In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are well combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

      Form the Meatballs:

        - With your hands, shape the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

          Cook the Meatballs:

            - Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until they are cooked through and golden brown.

              Prepare the Marinara Sauce:

                - While the meatballs are baking, heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

                  Combine the Ingredients:

                    - Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine. Add the sugar, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and let it cook for about 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

                      Add the Meatballs:

                        - Once the meatballs are done, carefully add them to the marinara sauce, simmering for an additional 5-10 minutes to heat through and allow the flavors to infuse.

                          Serve:

                            - Serve the turkey meatballs in marinara over your choice of pasta or zucchini noodles. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and additional grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
