Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (milk or semi-sweet)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

    Make the Brownie Layer:

      - In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and chocolate chips together, stirring constantly until smooth and fully combined. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

        - In a mixing bowl, combine the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.

          - Add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, stirring well to combine.

            - Fold in the flour, salt, and baking powder until just mixed (do not overmix). Set aside.

              Make the Cookie Layer:

                - In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

                  - Beat in the egg and vanilla until well combined.

                    - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

                      - Fold in the chocolate chips.

                        Assemble the Browkies:

                          - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.

                            - Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie layer, leaving some gaps. Gently spread and smooth out the cookie dough with a spatula if necessary (it’s okay if some brownie batter shows through).

                              Bake:

                                - Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter). The edges should be set while the center remains slightly gooey.

                                  Cool and Serve:

                                    - Let the browkies cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 10-15 minutes before slicing into squares. For best results, allow them to cool completely.
