The Best Croissant french toast bake EVER!

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

6 large croissants, preferably day-old

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries)

Powdered sugar for dusting

Maple syrup for serving

Optional: 1/2 cup chocolate chips or nuts for added texture

Instructions

Prepare the Croissants: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice each croissant in half lengthwise, then cut them into bite-sized pieces. Place the croissant pieces in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, layering them evenly. If desired, sprinkle chocolate chips or nuts among the croissant pieces for added flavor.

Make the Custard Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined and frothy.

Combine and Soak: Pour the custard mixture over the croissants in the baking dish, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Gently press the croissant pieces down to submerge them in the custard. Sprinkle fresh berries on top and let the mixture sit for at least 30 minutes. For even better results, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

Bake: Once ready to bake, remove the dish from the refrigerator (if refrigerated) and let it sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes. Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Serve: Let the croissant bake cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar. Serve warm with maple syrup and any extra berries on the side.
