Ingredients

2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour

2 ½ teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened (2 sticks)

2 ½ cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs, at room temperature

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

1 cup whole milk, at room temperature

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 4-5 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time to the butter/sugar mixture, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract until well combined.

Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three additions, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined; be careful not to overmix.

Pour into Pans: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans, smoothing the tops with a spatula.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes: Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, carefully turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.

Frosting (Optional): Once the cakes are completely cool, you can frost them with your favorite vanilla buttercream or cream cheese frosting.

Serve: Slice, serve, and enjoy this classic vanilla cake with your friends and family!
