Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk, warmed

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

1 cup packed brown sugar

2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup cream cheese, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 tablespoons milk (for icing)

Instructions

Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk with the active dry yeast and sugar. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until frothy.

Make Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour and salt. Add the melted butter, activated yeast mixture, and egg. Mix until combined. Gradually add more flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.

Knead Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Prepare Filling: In a bowl, mix the brown sugar and ground cinnamon together. Set aside.

Roll Out Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 16x24 inches. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on top.

Form Rolls: Starting from one long side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal slices.

Second Rise: Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes, until they puff up.

Preheat Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake Rolls: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until lightly golden.

Make Icing: In a medium bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.

Finish and Serve: Once rolls are out of the oven, let them cool for about 5 minutes, then spread the cream cheese icing over the warm rolls.
