Ingredients

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup packed light brown sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Whisk Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda; set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt together with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.

Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the semisweet chocolate chips and walnuts (if using) using a spatula or wooden spoon.

Scoop and Bake: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.

Cool: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
