Ingredients

1 lb thick-cut bacon

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup maple syrup

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for extra heat)

Freshly chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup and place a wire rack on top of the baking sheet.

Mix the Glaze: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the brown sugar, maple syrup, black pepper, cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, salt, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well to form a thick paste.

Prepare the Bacon: Lay each strip of bacon on the wire rack in a single layer. Make sure the ends of the bacon strips are not overlapping for even cooking.

Glaze the Bacon: Using a brush or a spoon, generously apply the sweet and spicy glaze onto each bacon strip. Don’t hold back – you want each piece to be coated well for maximum flavor!

Bake the Bacon: Put the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the bacon is crispy and the glaze is bubbling. Keep an eye on it towards the end to prevent burning!

Cool and Set: Once done, carefully remove the bacon from the oven and let it sit on the rack for about 5 minutes. The glaze will harden slightly as it cools.

Serve: Transfer the candied bacon to a serving platter. If desired, sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for a touch of color. Serve it warm as a delicious snack or appetizer.
