Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup water

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 large egg

Oil for frying

1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Chocolate or caramel sauce (for dipping, optional)

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the butter melts.

Reduce heat to low and add flour and baking powder. Stir vigorously until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan. Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes.

Once cooled, add the egg to the dough, mixing until fully incorporated and smooth.

In a deep frying pan, heat oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

While the oil is heating, prepare the cinnamon-sugar coating by mixing 1/4 cup granulated sugar with cinnamon in a shallow bowl.

Use a piping bag fitted with a star tip to pipe bite-sized pieces (about 1 to 2 inches long) of dough directly into the hot oil. Fry in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan.

Fry until golden brown and puffed, approximately 2-3 minutes, flipping once halfway through.

Remove churro bites with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. While still warm, roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat evenly.

Serve warm with chocolate or caramel sauce for dipping, if desired.
