Ingredients

2 cups water

2 cups milk (dairy or non-dairy of your choice)

2 tablespoons black tea leaves (or 2 black tea bags)

2-3 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)

1-2 cinnamon sticks

4-5 green cardamom pods, slightly crushed

5-6 whole cloves

1 inch fresh ginger, sliced or grated

1/4 teaspoon black peppercorns (optional, for a spicy kick)

A pinch of nutmeg (for garnish)

Whipped cream (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Prepare the Spice Blend: In a medium saucepan, add the water, cinnamon sticks, crushed cardamom pods, cloves, sliced ginger, and black peppercorns. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat.

Add Tea: Once boiling, remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the black tea leaves or tea bags. Cover and let it steep for 5-7 minutes for a robust flavor.

Strain the Mixture: Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the spiced tea into another saucepan to remove the spices and tea leaves. Return the liquid to the stove.

Incorporate Milk and Sweetener: Add the milk to the strained spiced tea and bring it back to a gentle simmer. Stir in honey or maple syrup to taste, adjusting sweetness to your preference.

Froth for Texture: If you prefer a frothy latte, use a milk frother to froth the chai latte mixture until it’s creamy and slightly airy. Alternatively, you can shake the mixture in a jar with a lid for a quick froth.

Serve: Pour the spiced chai latte into your favorite mug. Optionally, top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg for an indulgent touch.

Enjoy! Sip your homemade spiced chai latte while it's warm, and savor the comforting flavors you've created at home!
