Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons fresh chives, chopped

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

1/2 cup milk

1 large egg

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.

Add the cubed cold butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese, grated Parmesan, chopped chives, and parsley until evenly distributed.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg until fully combined.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir gently with a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat it into a rough rectangle about 1 inch thick.

Cut the dough into squares or wedges and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them.

(Optional) Brush the tops of the scones with a bit of milk or egg wash for a golden finish.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the scones are golden brown and cooked through.

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.
