Savory Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

6 oz (170g) cooked ham, diced

1 cup (about 100g) shredded cheese (such as Swiss, cheddar, or a blend)

1/4 cup (60g) cream cheese, softened

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Freshly cracked black pepper to taste

Flour for dusting

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smoothen any creases, making it slightly larger.

Make the Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the diced ham, shredded cheese, cream cheese, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and freshly cracked black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are well integrated.

Spread the Filling: Evenly spread the ham and cheese mixture over the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.

Roll It Up: Starting from one end, tightly roll the puff pastry away from you into a log shape. Ensure the filling is contained inside as you roll.

Slice the Pinwheels: Using a sharp knife, slice the rolled pastry into 1-inch wide pinwheels. You should get about 12-15 pinwheels.

Brush with Egg Wash: Place the pinwheels on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg to give them a golden color when baked.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed and golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your savory ham and cheese puff pastry pinwheels warm or at room temperature!
