Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1 cup diced cooked ham

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup whole milk

1 large egg

1 tablespoon fresh chives or green onions, chopped (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Cut in the Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add Ham and Cheese: Gently fold in the diced ham, shredded cheddar cheese, and optional chives or green onions, ensuring an even distribution.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and egg until well blended. Gradually pour the milk mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Shape the Biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it 2-3 times until it comes together. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Using a biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet. You can reform the scraps to cut additional biscuits.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown on the top.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes on a wire rack. Serve warm, preferably with a bit of extra butter.
