Ingredients

For the Crust:

1 package (15.25 oz) of yellow cake mix (store-bought)

1 large egg

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Filling:

1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ cup powdered sugar

1 cup salted caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

½ cup chocolate chips (optional)

Sea salt flakes, for sprinkling

For the Topping:

Additional salted caramel sauce for drizzling

Whipped cream, for serving (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

      Make the Crust:

In a medium bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, egg, and melted butter. Mix until well combined and the batter is thick. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust.

          Prepare the Filling:

In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until creamy. Add in the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix until everything is combined. Fold in the salted caramel sauce and if desired, the chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

              Assemble the Bars:

Pour the filling over the crust in the baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Use a spatula to smooth the top.

                  Bake:

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is slightly jiggly. The middle will firm up as it cools.

                      Cool and Top:

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes. Drizzle additional salted caramel sauce over the top and sprinkle with sea salt flakes to enhance the flavor.

                          Slice and Serve:

Once completely cooled, use a sharp knife to cut the bars into squares. Serve them with a dollop of whipped cream if desired and enjoy your delicious, gooey creations!
