Ingredients

For the Sugar Cookie Base:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

For the Salted Caramel:

1 cup granulated sugar

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed

½ cup heavy cream

½ teaspoon sea salt

For the Chocolate Topping:

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easier removal.

    Prepare Sugar Cookie Base:

      - In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

        - Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.

          - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

            - Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.

              Bake the Sugar Cookie Base:

                - Spread the sugar cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.

                  - Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges turn golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

                    - Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely in the pan.

                      Make the Salted Caramel:

                        - In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the granulated sugar, stirring constantly until it becomes a golden amber color (about 10 minutes).

                          - Carefully add the cubed butter, stirring continuously until melted.

                            - Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring (the mixture will bubble up), and cook for an additional minute.

                              - Remove from heat and stir in the sea salt. Allow it to cool slightly before pouring over the cooled sugar cookie base. Let it set for about 30 minutes.

                                Prepare the Chocolate Topping:

                                  - In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

                                    - Pour the melted chocolate over the salted caramel layer, spreading evenly with a spatula.

                                      Chill and Serve:

                                        - Allow the bars to set at room temperature or refrigerate for about 1 hour until the chocolate layer firms up.

                                          - Once set, cut into squares and serve. Enjoy the delightful combination of flavors!
