Ingredients

For the Butter Bars:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

For the Salted Caramel:

1 cup granulated sugar

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, chopped into pieces

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 teaspoon sea salt (plus extra for sprinkling)

Instructions

Prep the Oven and Pan:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.

      Make the Butter Bar Dough:

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.

          Combine Dry Ingredients:

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.

              Bake the Butter Bars:

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely while you make the caramel.

                  Prepare the Salted Caramel:

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the granulated sugar. Allow the sugar to melt, stirring constantly until it becomes a deep amber color, about 8-10 minutes. Once melted, carefully whisk in the butter until melted and smooth.

                      Finish the Caramel:

Gradually pour in the heavy cream while whisking continuously until well combined (it will bubble up, so be cautious). Remove from heat and stir in the sea salt. Allow the caramel to cool slightly.

                          Assemble:

Once the butter bars have cooled completely, drizzle the warm salted caramel over the top. Let it set for about 15 minutes.

                              Slice and Serve:

Use the overhang of parchment paper to lift the bars out of the pan. Cut into squares, and sprinkle with additional sea salt before serving.

                                  Enjoy!

Indulge in your homemade salted caramel butter bars and savor the sweet and salty goodness!
