Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 teaspoon sea salt for topping

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.

Make the Butter Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Mix in the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry mixture into the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Spread the Batter: Spread half of the batter evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.

Add Caramel Sauce: Drizzle the caramel sauce over the batter, spreading it gently with a spatula, leaving a border around the edges.

Top with Remaining Batter: With the remaining batter, dollop it over the caramel layer. It’s okay if the caramel peeks through a bit; just try to cover as much as possible.

Sprinkle with Sea Salt: Before baking, sprinkle the top generously with sea salt.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and Slice: Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then use the parchment paper overhang to lift them out and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.

Serve and Enjoy: Cut into squares or rectangles, serve, and enjoy these delicious salted caramel butter bars!
