Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1/4 cup finely chopped bell pepper

1 large egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking)

2 cups beef broth

2 tablespoons cornstarch (mixed with 2 tablespoons water)

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1/2 teaspoon paprika

Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, bell pepper, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Form the mixture into oval-shaped patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

Cook the Patties: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties to the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are browned and cooked through. Remove them from the skillet and set aside on a plate.

Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, add the beef broth, soy sauce, thyme, and paprika to the drippings left in the pan. Bring to a simmer, scraping the bottom of the skillet to incorporate any browned bits.

Thicken the Gravy: Stir in the cornstarch mixture to the broth and cook, stirring continuously, until the gravy thickens (about 2-3 minutes). If the gravy is too thick, you can add a bit more broth to reach your desired consistency.

Combine: Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spoon some gravy over the top, and simmer for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy your Salisbury Steak with a generous portion of brown gravy over mashed potatoes, rice, or fresh vegetables!
