Ingredients

2 ripe bananas, sliced

1 ½ cups whole milk

1 cup half-and-half

¾ cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup cornstarch

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 ½ cups whipped cream (homemade or store-bought)

1 box of vanilla wafers (about 12 oz)

Additional bananas and vanilla wafers for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Pudding Base: In a medium saucepan, whisk together the whole milk, half-and-half, granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt over medium heat. Keep whisking constantly to prevent lumps from forming.

Cook the Mixture: Continue cooking until the mixture thickens and starts to bubble, about 5-7 minutes. Once it reaches a pudding-like consistency, remove it from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

Cool the Pudding: Let the pudding cool slightly for about 10 minutes at room temperature, stirring occasionally to prevent a skin from forming.

Layer the Ingredients: In a trifle dish or individual serving cups, create layers by placing a layer of vanilla wafers at the bottom, followed by a layer of pudding, then a layer of sliced bananas. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with pudding on top.

Top with Whipped Cream: Spread or pipe the whipped cream over the top layer of pudding. If desired, garnish with extra banana slices and crushed vanilla wafers for added texture and decoration.

Chill and Serve: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to let the flavors meld together. Serve chilled and enjoy your quick and creamy banana pudding!
