Ingredients

For the Topping:

1 cup pecan halves

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup maple syrup

For the Cake:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (1 stick)

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions

Prepare the Topping:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a medium saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of butter over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and maple syrup until combined and bubbling. Remove from heat.

      Assemble the Topping:

Pour the butter mixture into a 9-inch round cake pan, tilting the pan to evenly coat the bottom. Arrange pecan halves evenly on top of the mixture.

          Make the Batter:

In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat together 1/2 cup softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.

              Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter-sugar mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

                  Bake the Cake:

Pour the batter over the pecans in the cake pan, spreading it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

                      Cool and Turn Out:

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes. Then, run a knife around the edges to loosen it. Invert the cake onto a serving plate. Tap gently to remove the pan.

                          Serve:

Serve warm, optionally topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgence. Enjoy the delightful flavors and textures of this delightful Pecan Paradise!
