Orange Croissant Breakfast Bake

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

4 large croissants, cut into large pieces

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/3 cup sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Zest of 1 orange

1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Pinch of salt

1/2 cup mixed berries (optional, for garnish)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Croissants: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cut croissant pieces and melted butter. Toss until the croissants are lightly coated.

Make the Custard: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, orange zest, orange juice, cinnamon, and salt until fully combined.

Assemble the Bake: Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread the buttery croissant pieces evenly in the dish. Pour the custard mixture over the croissants, making sure to saturate them evenly. Press down gently on the croissants to encourage them to soak up the custard.

Let it Rest: Allow the mixture to sit for about 15-20 minutes, giving the croissants time to soak up the liquid.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.

Cool and Serve: Let the bake cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar and top with mixed berries if desired. Serve warm.
