Ingredients

1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces

1/2 cup cornstarch

1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/2 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed for best flavor)

Zest of 1 orange

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup honey

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon corn syrup (for added shine, optional)

1 tablespoon chopped green onions (for garnish)

Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: In a mixing bowl, toss the chicken pieces with cornstarch until well-coated. This will give the chicken a crispy texture when fried.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.

Fry the Chicken: Carefully add the chicken pieces in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and drain on paper towels.

Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using). Sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.

Combine Ingredients: Pour in the orange juice, add the orange zest, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and corn syrup. Stir to combine, bringing the mixture to a simmer.

Thicken the Sauce: Allow the sauce to simmer for about 3-5 minutes, until it thickens slightly.

Coat the Chicken: Return the fried chicken to the skillet and toss to coat with the orange sauce. Ensure all pieces are evenly covered and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately over steamed rice or with stir-fried vegetables.
