Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 large egg + 1 egg yolk

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Whisk together until smooth and well-combined. Add the vanilla extract, whole egg, and egg yolk, continuing to whisk until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Sift in the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt into the wet mixture. Using a spatula, gently fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it's okay if a few flour streaks remain.

Add Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped nuts, if using, until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Scoop the Dough: Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. The center may look slightly soft but will firm up as the cookies cool.

Cool and Enjoy: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the cookies cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve warm or at room temperature.
