Ingredients

1 loaf of challah or brioche bread, sliced into thick pieces

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup maple syrup (for serving)

Powdered sugar (for dusting)

Fresh berries (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Arrange the sliced bread in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, overlapping the pieces as needed.

Make the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until thoroughly combined.

Combine: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, making sure all pieces are well coated. Press down gently to ensure the bread absorbs the custard.

Chill: Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight. This allows the bread to soak up the custard.

Bake: Remove the plastic wrap and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly puffed.

Serve: Allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup, dusted with powdered sugar, and topped with fresh berries if desired.
