Ingredients

1 lb spaghetti

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 medium onion, chopped

1 pound ground beef or turkey

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the spaghetti: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Prepare the sauce: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 4-5 minutes.

Brown the meat: Add the ground beef (or turkey) to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 6-7 minutes.

Combine ingredients: Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer on low heat for about 15 minutes for the flavors to meld.

Mix pasta and sauce: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked spaghetti with the meat sauce, making sure the spaghetti is well coated.

Assemble the bake: In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread half of the spaghetti mixture evenly. Dollop half of the ricotta cheese on top. Sprinkle with 1 cup of mozzarella cheese and 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining spaghetti, ricotta, mozzarella, and top with the remaining Parmesan.

Bake it: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Garnish and serve: Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving. Enjoy your delicious spaghetti bake!
