Ingredients

4 large sweet potatoes (about 5 cups when mashed)

1/2 cup maple syrup

1/4 cup bourbon (or to taste)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup mini marshmallows (optional, for topping)

1/2 cup pecans, chopped (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare Sweet Potatoes: Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into chunks. Place them in a large pot, cover with water, and bring it to a boil. Cook for about 15-20 minutes or until the sweet potatoes are tender. Drain and allow them to cool slightly.

Mash the Sweet Potatoes: In a large mixing bowl, mash the sweet potatoes until smooth. You can use a potato masher or a hand mixer for a creamier texture.

Mix in Ingredients: To the mashed sweet potatoes, add the maple syrup, bourbon, melted butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well until everything is fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth.

Transfer to Baking Dish: Pour the sweet potato mixture into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Prepare Topping: If desired, sprinkle pecans over the top of the sweet potato mixture for added texture. For a sweeter option, layer mini marshmallows on top of the pecans.

Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until heated through and the top is slightly golden, especially if using marshmallows.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. It is perfect as a side dish for holiday dinners or gatherings.
