Ingredients

2 cups cooked elbow macaroni

2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1 cup milk

1/4 cup unsalted butter

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup breadcrumbs

2 large eggs

1 lb ground beef (or plant-based alternative)

4 hamburger buns

Optional toppings: sliced pickles, lettuce, and diced tomatoes

Non-stick cooking spray or oil for waffle iron

Instructions

Make the Mac & Cheese: In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to create a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until the mixture thickens.

Add Cheese: Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth. Mix in the cooked elbow macaroni until well combined.

Prepare Waffles: Preheat your waffle iron and coat it with non-stick spray. Take half of the mac & cheese and spread it evenly in the preheated waffle iron. Close the lid and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until crispy and golden. Remove and set aside; repeat with the remaining macaroni mixture to create two mac & cheese waffles.

Form the Patties: In a large bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide it into four equal portions and form into patties.

Cook the Patties: Grill or pan-fry the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they reach your desired doneness. If using cheese, add a slice on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

Assemble the Burger: Begin with one mac & cheese waffle as the base, place a beef patty on top, and layer with any additional toppings. Add a second mac & cheese waffle to complete your burger.

Serve: Slice the Mac 'N Cheese Waffle Burger in half to reveal the gooey center, serve with your favorite dipping sauce or a side of fries.
