Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey (preferably 93% lean)

1/2 cup whole wheat breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

2 tablespoons milk (or almond milk)

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for a kick)

2 tablespoons olive oil (for cooking)

1 cup marinara sauce (for serving)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare the Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, whole wheat breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, milk, dried oregano, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes, if using.

Mix Well: Use your hands or a spatula to mix all the ingredients together until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatballs tough.

Shape the Meatballs: With clean hands, scoop out about 1.5 tablespoons of the mixture and roll it into a ball. Place each meatball on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each one.

Cooking on Stovetop: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches (don’t overcrowd the pan). Cook them for 3-4 minutes per side until they are golden brown.

Bake in the Oven: Transfer the browned meatballs to the baking sheet if you started them on the stovetop. Bake in the preheated oven for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).

Serve: While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a small saucepan. Once the meatballs are cooked, serve them hot drizzled with marinara sauce. Pair with whole grain pasta or zoodles for a healthy meal.

Garnish: Optionally, sprinkle extra parsley or Parmesan on top before serving for an added touch of flavor.
