Italian Crescent Casserole

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough

1 pound Italian sausage (casings removed)

1 medium onion, chopped

1 bell pepper (any color), chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes (with Italian herbs)

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage, breaking it apart with a spatula until it’s browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease.

Sauté Vegetables: Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet with the sausage. Sauté until the vegetables are soft, about 5 minutes.

Combine Ingredients: Stir in the crushed tomatoes and Italian seasoning. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes to meld flavors.

Prepare the Crescent Rolls: Unroll the crescent roll dough and lay it in a lightly greased 9x13-inch baking dish, pressing it firmly at the seams to create a solid base.

Layer Filling: Pour the sausage and vegetable mixture evenly over the dough. Sprinkle both mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses generously on top.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.

Garnish and Serve: Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before slicing and serving.
