Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup fresh blackberries

1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan, or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Mix in the vanilla extract.

Combine with Buttermilk: Gradually add the buttermilk to the butter mixture, beating well until the mixture is smooth.

Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Add Blackberries and Chocolate: Gently fold in the fresh blackberries and chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cake: Once baked, let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Serve: Dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar if desired, slice, and enjoy your delicious blackberry chocolate cake!
