Ingredients

For the Pâte à Choux:

1 cup (240 ml) water

1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, cut into pieces

1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

4 large eggs

For the Cream Filling:

1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream

1/4 cup (30 g) powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Chocolate Glaze (optional):

1/2 cup (90 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Instructions

Prepare the Pâte à Choux:

    - In a medium saucepan, combine the water and butter. Heat over medium until the butter is melted and the mixture comes to a gentle boil.

      - Remove the pan from heat and quickly stir in the flour and salt until a smooth dough forms. Return to the heat and cook for about 2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the dough pulls away from the sides of the pan and forms a ball.

        Incorporate the Eggs:

          - Transfer the dough to a mixing bowl and let it cool for 5 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition until fully incorporated and the batter is smooth and glossy.

            Shape the Cream Puffs:

              - Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Use a piping bag fitted with a round nozzle (or a plastic bag with the corner cut off) to pipe the dough into small mounds, about 1.5 inches in diameter, on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each puff.

                Bake the Puffs:

                  - Bake for 20-25 minutes or until they puff up and turn golden brown. Avoid opening the oven door during baking. Once baked, turn off the oven and leave the puffs inside for another 10 minutes to dry out.

                    Make the Cream Filling:

                      - While the cream puffs are cooling, whip the heavy cream in a medium bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla, then continue to whip until stiff peaks form.

                        Fill the Cream Puffs:

                          - Once the puffs have completely cooled, use a small knife to poke a hole in the bottom of each puff. Fill a piping bag with the whipped cream and pipe it into each puff until they feel slightly heavy.

                            Prepare the Chocolate Glaze (optional):

                              - In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and butter. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring between heating, until melted and smooth. Dip the tops of each cream puff into the chocolate glaze and let them set on a wire rack.

                                Serve and Enjoy:

                                  - Arrange the filled cream puffs on a serving platter and enjoy these delightful treats with family and friends!
