How to Make French Toast Waffles

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

4 large eggs

1 cup milk (whole or almond)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon salt

4 slices of thick bread (brioche, challah, or sourdough)

2 tablespoons melted butter, plus extra for greasing the waffle iron

Maple syrup, for serving

Fresh berries or powdered sugar, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Waffle Iron: Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Lightly grease it with cooking spray or melted butter.

Mix the Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Soak the Bread: Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for about 30 seconds on each side, ensuring they are well-coated but not overly soggy.

Add to Waffle Iron: Place a soaked slice of bread on the waffle iron, then drizzle a little melted butter over the top of the bread slice. Close the waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions (usually about 3-4 minutes) until the waffle is golden brown and crisp.

Serve Hot: Carefully remove the French toast waffle from the iron. Repeat with the remaining bread slices. Serve immediately topped with warm maple syrup, fresh berries, or a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.
