Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup milk

2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for topping)

2 cups boiling water

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or skillet.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until a smooth batter forms. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared cake pan.

In a separate bowl, combine the brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter in the pan.

Carefully pour the boiling water over the top of the batter and the sugar/cocoa mixture. Do not stir; it might seem odd, but this will create the hot fudge sauce.

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the cake has set on top while still being soft and sticky underneath.

Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving. Scoop into bowls and enjoy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra treat!
