Ingredients

1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs

1 cup canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)

1/4 cup plain yogurt or sour cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves, and salt. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vegetable oil until well blended.

Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the pumpkin puree, yogurt, and vanilla extract until fully combined.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.

If using, fold in the chopped nuts and/or chocolate chips.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.

Bake in the preheated oven for 60–70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes. Then transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool completely.

Slice and enjoy your homemade pumpkin bread with a pat of butter or on its own!
