Ingredients

3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup plain yogurt (preferably Greek yogurt)

½ cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)

2 tablespoons sugar

2 teaspoons active dry yeast

1 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons olive oil (or melted ghee)

4 cloves garlic, finely minced

2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Extra olive oil or ghee (for brushing)

Instructions

Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

Combine Ingredients: Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the dry ingredients along with the yogurt and olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon until the mixture comes together.

Knead Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour as needed.

First Rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Prepare Garlic Mixture: While the dough is rising, mix minced garlic with a little olive oil or ghee in a small bowl.

Shape Naan: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and let them rest for another 10-15 minutes.

Roll Out: Flatten each ball with your fingers, then use a rolling pin to roll it out into an oval or tear-shaped naan, about ¼ inch thick.

Cook Naan: Heat a cast-iron skillet or a tandoor over medium-high heat. Once hot, cook each naan for about 1-2 minutes on one side until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes. Brush the garlic mixture on top while it cooks.

Finish and Serve: Once cooked, remove the naan from the skillet and brush with additional olive oil or ghee. Garnish with chopped cilantro. Serve warm with your favorite curry or dip!
