Cheesy garlic breadsticks have graced tables around the world, transcending cultural boundaries and becoming a beloved staple in both casual and fine dining. Their popularity can be traced back to the Italian tradition of serving bread with garlic and olive oil, which has evolved into the cheesy delight many know today. In various cuisines, breadsticks serve as a versatile companion, often enjoyed alongside pasta dishes, soups, or simply as a solo snack.

Homemade Cheesy Breadsticks

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon instant yeast

½ cup warm water (about 110°F/43°C)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)

1 teaspoon dried parsley

Optional: Marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast. Mix well.

Slowly add the warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients, and stir until a dough begins to form.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it's doubled in size.

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface, about ½ inch thick.

Transfer the rolled dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Brush the melted butter over the dough and sprinkle the garlic powder and dried parsley evenly on top.

Scatter the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses over the surface of the dough.

Using a pizza cutter or knife, slice the dough into individual breadsticks.

Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden and cheese is bubbling.

Once out of the oven, allow the breadsticks to cool for a few minutes, then serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping if desired.
