Hawaiian Roll French Toast

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

8 Hawaiian rolls

4 large eggs

1 cup milk (preferably whole or coconut milk for extra flavor)

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon nutmeg

2 tablespoons melted butter (plus extra for the skillet)

Fresh pineapple slices (for serving)

Maple syrup (for drizzling)

Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Shredded coconut (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Batter: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and melted butter until well combined.

Slice the Rolls: Carefully cut each Hawaiian roll in half horizontally. If they are too soft, you can do this gently to avoid tearing.

Soak the Rolls: Dip each roll half into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well-coated. Allow them to soak for about 30 seconds to absorb the flavors.

Heat the Skillet: In a large skillet or griddle, melt a tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Make sure the skillet is evenly heated.

Cook the French Toast: Place the soaked Hawaiian rolls in the skillet, cut side down. Cook for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Flip them carefully and cook the other side for another 3-4 minutes. Add more butter to the skillet if needed.

Serve: Remove the French toast from the skillet and transfer to plates. Top with fresh pineapple slices and drizzle generously with maple syrup. For an extra touch, dust with powdered sugar and sprinkle shredded coconut on top if desired.

Enjoy: Serve immediately while warm and enjoy the sweet, tropical flavors of your Hawaiian Roll French Toast!
