Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

6 slices of ham (thinly sliced)

1 cup of shredded cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or your choice)

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (optional)

1 egg (for egg wash)

Salt and pepper (to taste)

Fresh herbs (such as chives or parsley, finely chopped; optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface for a smoother finish if needed.

Spread the Mustard (Optional): If using Dijon mustard, spread it evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges.

Layer the Ham and Cheese: Place the slices of ham evenly over the mustard and sprinkle the shredded cheese on top. Add fresh herbs if desired, and season with a little salt and pepper.

Roll the Puff Pastry: Starting from one side, carefully roll the pastry sheet into a tight log. Ensure everything is tucked in neatly to prevent the filling from spilling out during baking.

Slice the Pinwheels: Using a sharp knife, cut the rolled pastry into approximately 1-inch thick slices. Place the pinwheels cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.

Prepare the Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the tops of each pinwheel to give them a beautiful golden color while baking.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed up and golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels warm as an appetizer, snack, or party treat!
