Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon sugar

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 cup diced ham (smoked or honey-baked)

1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick), melted

1 1/2 cups whole milk

Fresh cracked black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).

Prepare the Baking Dish: In a large baking dish (about 9x13 inches), pour in the melted butter; make sure to evenly coat the bottom.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar until combined.

Add Cheese and Ham: Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham gently into the dry mixture.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the whole milk with a dash of black pepper. Pour this into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Be careful not to over-mix; it’s okay if the batter is a bit lumpy.

Spoon the Batter: Drop spoonfuls of the biscuit batter directly into the melted butter in the baking dish. The batter will float on top of the butter.

Bake the Biscuits: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serve Warm: Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve the biscuits warm, scooping them out with a spatula, and enjoy the buttery goodness!
