Ingredients

1 package of phyllo dough (16 oz), thawed

1 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 cups walnuts, finely chopped

1 cup pistachios, finely chopped

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup water

1 cup honey

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon lemon juice

A pinch of salt

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, pistachios, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Mix well and set aside.

On a clean surface, unroll the phyllo dough and cover it with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out. Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.

Place one sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush it with melted butter. Repeat the process, layering 7-8 sheets of buttered phyllo dough.

Sprinkle about a cup of the nut mixture over the layered phyllo.

Add 3 more sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with butter. Then add another cup of the nut mixture. Repeat until the nut mixture is used up. Finish with 7-8 more layers of phyllo, brushing each with butter.

Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.

While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, honey, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let it cool.

Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the syrup over the hot baklava, ensuring every piece is soaked.

Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving, for the best texture and flavor.
