Ingredients

1 cup dill pickle slices (or spears)

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup cornmeal

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for heat preference)

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 cup buttermilk

Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

Prepare the Pickles: Drain the dill pickle slices and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps them fry up crispy.

Set Up Breading Station: In one bowl, pour the buttermilk. In a second bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.

Bread the Pickles: Dip each pickle slice first into the buttermilk, allowing the excess to drip off. Then, coat it in the flour mixture, ensuring it's evenly covered. Place the breaded pickles on a plate.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). You can test the temperature by dropping a small amount of the flour mixture into the oil; it should sizzle immediately.

Fry the Pickles: Carefully add the breaded pickles to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.

Drain and Serve: Once fried, use a slotted spoon to remove the pickles and allow them to drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

Dipping Sauce (optional): For an extra kick, mix together ranch dressing with a bit of hot sauce or serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Enjoy: Serve hot and enjoy your crispy, crunchy fried pickles as a delightful appetizer or snack!
