Fluffy Jam-Filled Doughnut Loaf

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons instant yeast

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F (43°C)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1/2 cup fruit jam (your choice, such as raspberry, strawberry, or blueberry)

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, salt, instant yeast, and ground nutmeg. Mix until well combined.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the warmed milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients: Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured work surface. Knead for about 6-8 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shape the Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and turn it onto a floured surface. Roll it into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.

Add Jam: Spread the fruit jam evenly over the surface of the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.

Roll the Dough: Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seams to seal.

Second Rise: Place the rolled dough seam-side down in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let it rise again for 30-45 minutes, until puffy.

Preheat the Oven: While the dough is rising, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake the Loaf: Bake the loaf in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool Down: Allow the doughnut loaf to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve: Once cool, dust with powdered sugar if desired, slice, and enjoy your fluffy jam-filled doughnut loaf!
