Ingredients

6 large croissants, torn into pieces

6 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese

1/2 cup cooked and crumbled bacon or sausage (optional)

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Fresh chives or parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until the onion is translucent, about 5-6 minutes. If you're using bacon or sausage, cook it until crispy before adding the onions.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, thyme, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Add the torn croissant pieces into the baking dish. Pour the sautéed onion and garlic (and optional meat) over the croissants, ensuring they are evenly distributed.

Pour the egg mixture over the croissant pieces, pressing down slightly to soak the croissants. Allow the mixture to sit for about 10-15 minutes so the croissants absorb the custard.

Sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese evenly on top of the casserole.

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set in the middle. An inserted knife should come out clean.

Allow cooling for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh chives or parsley for a pop of color and freshness.
