Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Flaky sea salt for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the eggs, one at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, sift together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.

Add Nuts and Chocolate: Fold in the chopped pecans and the chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Spread in Pan: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly across the bottom.

Drizzle with Caramel: Bake for about 20 minutes, then remove from the oven and drizzle the caramel sauce over the top. Use a knife to gently swirl the caramel into the batter.

Finish Baking: Return the pan to the oven and bake for another 10-15 minutes, or until the edges are set and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean (a few crumbs are okay).

Cool and Cut: Once baked, let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before lifting them out using the parchment paper. Allow them to cool completely on a wire rack. Once cooled, cut into squares and sprinkle with flaky sea salt, if desired.
