Easy Homemade McGriddle Breakfast Sandwiches

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

2 tablespoons sugar

1/2 teaspoon salt

3/4 cup milk

1 large egg

2 tablespoons melted butter

1 teaspoon maple extract

4 cooked sausage patties

4 slices of American cheese

4 eggs

Maple syrup (for drizzling)

Instructions

Make the Pancake Batter: In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and maple extract until well blended. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.

Cook the Pancakes: Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface (about 2-3 minutes), then flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes or until golden brown. Repeat until all the batter is gone.

Prepare the Sausage and Eggs: In the same skillet, cook the sausage patties until browned and heated through, then remove and set aside. In the same skillet, crack the eggs and fry to your desired doneness (sunny side up or scrambled works well).

Assemble the Sandwiches: Layer each breakfast sandwich starting with a pancake, followed by a sausage patty, a slice of cheese, and an egg. Top with another pancake.

Drizzle with Maple Syrup: Before serving, drizzle a little maple syrup over the top of each sandwich for that McGriddle sweetness.
