Double Chocolate Cream Cheese Muffin Tops

A delightful twist on a classic dish.

Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking powder

½ tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ cup sour cream

½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

½ cup mini chocolate chips

4 oz cream cheese, softened

¼ cup powdered sugar

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In another large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the sour cream. Mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the semi-sweet and mini chocolate chips until evenly distributed.

Prepare Cream Cheese Filling: In a small bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.

Scoop the Batter: Using a cookie scoop or a large spoon, drop heaping tablespoons of the muffin batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each scoop.

Add Cream Cheese Filling: Make a small indentation in the center of each mound and add about ½ teaspoon of the cream cheese filling.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until the tops are set and a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean (a few chocolate bits are okay!).

Cool: Remove the muffin tops from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy your delightful Double Chocolate Cream Cheese Muffin Tops!
