Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

¾ cup whole milk

½ cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 cup boiling water

1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

1 cup shredded coconut (optional)

½ cup chocolate chips (for added indulgence)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk together until there are no lumps.

Add Wet Ingredients: Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix with a hand mixer or a whisk until just combined.

Incorporate Boiling Water: Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter. This will make the batter quite thin, but that’s perfectly fine! The hot water helps to bloom the cocoa and make the cake rich and moist.

If Desired, Add Extras: If you're using walnuts, shredded coconut, or chocolate chips, gently fold them into the batter at this stage.

Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool Down: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve: Once cooled, you can serve the cake as is or dust it with powdered sugar for a simple finish. For a festive touch, serve it with whipped cream or ice cream.
