Ingredients

3 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal later.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas and melted butter. Whisk in the brown sugar until well-blended, then add the egg and vanilla extract. Mix until the batter is smooth.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Do not over-mix. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and walnuts if using.

Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

Cool and Serve: Once done, remove from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Lift the bars out using the parchment paper overhang and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Enjoy your delicious banana chocolate chip bars with a cup of coffee or tea!
