1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) instant yeast

1 tsp sugar

1 tsp salt

1 cup warm water (110°F)

3 tbsp olive oil

For the Filling:

1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed

1 green bell pepper, chopped

1 cup mushrooms, sliced

1 onion, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

Salt and pepper to taste

For Toppings (optional):

Sliced pepperoni

Fresh basil leaves

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.

      - Add flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Stir until it forms a dough.

        - Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

          Make the Filling:

            - In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until browned. Add the chopped bell pepper, onion, mushrooms, and garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are tender. Season with salt, pepper, oregano, and basil. Remove from heat.

              Prepare the Pizza:

                - Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a deep-dish pizza pan (about 14 inches in diameter).

                  - Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a circle large enough to cover the bottom and sides of the pan. Place the dough in the pan, allowing the excess to hang over the edges.

                    - Layer the sausage and vegetable mixture evenly over the dough, followed by the marinara sauce.

                      - Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese on top, followed by grated Parmesan cheese. Add optional toppings if desired.

                        Bake the Pizza:

                          - Fold the overhanging dough over the top of the filling.

                            - Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.

                              Serve:

                                - Allow the pizza to cool for a few minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
