Ingredients

For the Brownies:

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

For the French Silk Topping:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

3 large eggs (preferably pasteurized)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, melted and slightly cooled

Whipped cream and chocolate shavings for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Make the Brownies:

    - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

      - In a medium saucepan, melt the 1 cup of butter over medium heat. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar until well combined.

        - Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

          - In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter and sugar mixture, stirring until just combined.

            - Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Allow to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

              Prepare the French Silk Topping:

                - In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer until creamy and smooth.

                  - Gradually add the powdered sugar and continue to mix until fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

                    - In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs until slightly frothy, then gradually add them to the butter-sugar mixture, beating well after each addition. Beat for about 5-7 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.

                      - Stir in the melted chocolate and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.

                        Assemble:

                          - Once the brownies have cooled completely, spread the French silk topping generously over the brownie layer.

                            - Chill the brownies in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to allow the topping to set.

                              - Just before serving, top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings if desired.
